Montclair, NJ – The National Association (NAB) has named Montclair State University’s campus radio station WMSC-90.3 FM as a finalist for a prestigious National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Award in the “Best College Radio Station of the Year” category. This marks the second ever nomination for WMSC, which was nominated for “Best Non-Commercial Station of the Year” in 2017.

“I’m extremely proud of the dedication and hard work of all our student professionals that make this station the outstanding place that it is,” said Anabella Poland, General Manager and station advisor. “Our state-of-the-art facility and longstanding ties to top industry professionals create a perfect environment for our students to collectively do such amazing work.”

This nomination comes in the wake of other top industry awards given to WMSC. This past spring at the 2019 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference and Awards Event, Poland received the Jeff Tellis “Outstanding Advisor of the Year “award and the station took home first place national award for Best Community Outreach Event. The station was also the recipient of the “2018 Spirit of College Radio Award.”

WMSC student station manager Hiral Patel is thrilled by the honor.

“I’m beyond excited the NAB recognizes the value of our efforts and creativity” said Patel. “Joining the campus radio station my freshman year was the single best decision I made in college.”

School of Communication and Media Director Keith Strudler believes this nomination is yet another affirmation of the outstanding work done by Poland and WMSC.

“The National Association of Broadcasters have recognized something we know very well – that WMSC is one of the finest stations in the country and provides exceptional educational opportunities to our talented students,” noted Strudler

Along with WMSC, the other four nominees for the category of “Best College Radio Station of the Year” are WSOU (Seton Hall University), WRHU (Hofstra University), WRRC (Rider University) and WHPC (Nassau Community College).

The winners will be announced on September 26, 2019 at the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner and held during the 2019 Radio Show in Dallas, Texas.

WMSC broadcasts on the iHeartRadio App, online at wmscradio.com, and on the dial at 90.3 FM.
