MONTCLAIR, N.J. — WMSC 90.3 FM, the student radio station of Montclair State University, has been named a finalist for a 2026 National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Award in the College Radio Station of the Year category.
The station was first named a finalist in 2017 for Best Non-Commercial Station of the Year, followed by College Radio Station of the Year nods in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Established in 1989 and named for inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, the Marconi Radio Awards are among the highest honors in the radio industry, recognizing stations and on-air personalities for excellence in programming, community service, and innovation. Finalists are selected by an independent panel of broadcasters.
The recognition reflects the work of a fully student-run operation. WMSC’s programming spans live music broadcasts, campus and local news coverage, artist interviews, and specialty programming including the station’s annual Vinylthon weekend and its World College Radio Day marathon. Students handle everything from booking and producing interviews to engineering broadcasts and managing the station’s music library.
“Watching students find their voice at WMSC never gets old. These are volunteers, giving their free time…days, nights, weekends and summer or winter recess, not because they have to, but because they love it and believe in this. Montclair gives them the space and support to build something they’ll carry into a career, and this nomination, our 8th in 9 years, is proof that room and support matters,” said General Manager Anabella Poland. “I already know how hardworking, innovative and driven they are. I just can’t wait for the industry that hires them to find out too”.
The nomination continues a run of national recognition for WMSC, which has earned honors from College Broadcasters, Inc. and the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in recent years, including Best College Radio Station.
Winners of the 2026 Marconi Radio Awards will be announced Tuesday, October 20 at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, the night before NAB Show New York.
