WMSC Names Lisa G. as Professional-in-Residence for News

Radio news reporter Lisa Glasberg, known in the industry as Lisa G., has been named the 2022-2023 News Professional-in-Residence for WMSC-FM, the campus radio station of Montclair State University. 

The veteran iHeartRadio news anchor, writer, and reporter who can also be heard on WOR-AM in New York will work exclusively with WMSC’s news department alongside general manager Anabella Poland to support and mentor the station’s student reporters. The one-year term will allow students to connect with Lisa G. on a regular basis, participate in workshops, and receive feedback on their newscasts and news reporting.

A graduate of Hofstra University, Lisa G. began her career at WRHU, the campus radio station. From 1990 to 1999, she was a morning show co-host with Ed Lover and Doctor Dre on Hot 97 FM in New York. She then spent three years at New York’s WOR-AM before joining Howard Stern on Satellite Radio for a decade as a news reporter on Howard 100 News. In 2015, Lisa G. joined iHeartRadio and she can also be heard daily on WOR-AM. 

She has been honored for her work with a Billboard Air Personality of the Year Award, a 2003 Gracie Award winner for best local radio personality, and in 2009 she was inducted into the Hofstra Radio Hall of Fame. 

 “I had the privilege to work with Lisa G. at SiriusXM when she was the news reporter at Howard 100 News,” says Poland. “Her ability to find an interesting angle and details that stick with listeners is something that makes her news reporting stand out, and I am excited she is joining us in this mentor role at WMSC-FM.”

This past month, WMSC earned sixteen national awards at the 82nd Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems Awards including first place for Best Celebrity Interview with “Weird” Al Yankovic, and Best Show Promo “Stomp N’ Stroll Radio.” These awards come after a long string of honors earned in 2021 including “Best College Station (university with more than 10,000 students)”, Best Comedy Video,Best Special Broadcast Audio, and earning a prestigious National Association of Broadcasters’ Marconi Award nomination for “College Station of the Year.” 

WMSC-FM is one of several student-led media outlets in Montclair State University’s School of Communication and Media which operate under the direction of faculty with decades of classroom, agency, brand and media production experience. The School provides hands-on opportunities for students to develop their multimedia and content-creation skills in the shadow of the world’s largest media market.
