Ed Helvey (Class of 1967) starts a radio club on campus with a select group of Montclair State students. His hope? To connect thousands of commuters with the campus community. In those days, Montclair State only housed approximately 25 % of the student population on campus, and most would leave after class rarely participating in extra curricular activities or feeling connected to campus life. Since, an untold number (in the thousands) of students have been impacted by this college radio station. His dream!
WVMS, “The Voice of Montclair State” begins broadcasting on AM Radio from the basement of what today is College Hall. The official ribbon cutting ceremony took place on April 17th, 1967.
