NJ Transit Fare Increase Goes Into Effect

(New Jersey, USA) On July 1st 2024, NJ Transit increased its fare prices. The fare hike, approved in April, increases ticket prices by up to 15 percent, alongside an annual fare increase of 3 percent that begins July 2025. This increase applies to all NJ Transit bus and rail services. The fare increase was introduced in order to close a projected budget gap of about 106.6 million dollars. 

This increase comes during a period of increased scrutiny against NJ Transit. Riders across social media have been reporting a significant increase in delays. With many saying they are being left stranded due to these delays.

NJ Transit does offer a student pass. Students from approved educational institutions are eligible to purchase monthly rail passes at a 25 percent discount. Montclair State University is on the list of approved institutions. Only monthly rail passes are eligible for this discount.
