MONTCLAIR, NJ-
Tonight, another big rivalry game in women’s basketball took place. The William Patterson Pioneers took a short, but serious road trip to the Panzer Athletic Center, to take on the Montclair State Redhawks. The game finished off with a 56-52 victory for the Pioneers. Brianna Smith, led her team to the victory scoring 25 points. She was also assisted by teammate Justina Cabezas, who finished the game with 13 points, also leading her team with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. On the Redhawks side, the points leader was forward/center Olivia Vero with 16 points in 36 minutes on the floor. She was closely followed by star senior Nickie Carter with 15 points in 34 minutes.
One main factor that differed between the two sides was 3 point percentage. William Paterson ended the game shooting 66.7% from 3 point range to Montclair’s low percentage of 22.2%. The Pioneers saw 23 attempts at the free throw line, compared to the Redhawks 12 attempts.
The next challenge that the MSU women’s team is up against is away at Stockton university Saturday at 3 pm. Stockton currently sits at a winning record of 11-10, while Montclair State’s is flip flopped at 10-11.
