MONTCLAIR, NJ-

The Montclair State Men’s Basketball team utterly dominated their cross-town rival William Paterson in a massive 99-81 point victory. One basket shy of the 100-point mark, the Red Hawks exploded offensively. Tonight, as usual, it was all about the three ball. Shooting an outstanding 52.9 percent from beyond the arc on 34 attempts.

Senior forward Steven Breeman and sophomore guard Mike Jackson completely took this game over from the moment the ball was tipped. Both tallied 23 points each, leading the team in offensive production. Montclair also won the battle on the glass, out rebounding William Paterson by 11 boards tonight. Breeman with a team-high of seven.

Tonight’s game was by far the Red Hawks best performance of the season, only not having the lead for a whopping 36 seconds. However, this was not a perfect game. The Red Hawks turned the ball over 14 times due to the Pioneers aggressive swarm defense. They were able to force Montclair into many mistakes and were able to keep the game within reach for around 25 minutes. Coach Potts’ team will need to improve in this department as they move forward throughout the season.

Overall, tonight brought a ton of positive signs for the Red Hawks and Red Hawk Nation. With this win, they now move to 18-3 on the year with a 12-2 conference record. The NJAC is looking like it’s going to come down to the wire, with Montclair State now only two games behind Rowan with only four left to go. It’s very likely tournament basketball will be coming to Montclair, NJ this year.
