Rams Dominate Giants 28-6 on Monday Night Football

The second week of NFL action wrapped up between the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants, where the Rams secured not only their first win of the season but also their first Monday Night Football victory after losing their last five appearances on the primetime stage. Dominating from start to finish, the Rams controlled the pace and earned a 28-6 victory in front of their home crowd.
After the Giants’ Week 1 victory over their divisional rival, the Dallas Cowboys, the script completely flipped in Week 2. On the Giants’ opening drive, second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart took a big hit from two Rams defenders and suffered a lower-body injury. Dart was clearly in pain holding his knee, but he eventually walked off the field under his own power. The Giants later announced he would not return to the game. Based on initial exams, Dart was believed to have suffered a sprained MCL and was expected to miss a couple of weeks.
However, over the next day, things took a drastic turn after his MRI revealed Dart suffered significant damage in his knee from his MCL, PCL, and meniscus. Now, Dart’s regular season comes to an end as he will miss the remainder of the season. New York’s quarterback will have surgery on Friday to repair his injuries.
Following Dart’s injury, backup quarterback Jameis Winston took over under center. Winston and the Giants struggled all night, completing just 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and throwing an interception to Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie, who was recently acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs. Winston looked uncomfortable throughout the game as the offense completely lost its rhythm. Through two weeks, one thing has become clear: Dart is the engine and pulse of this whole football team. When he is healthy, in rhythm, and commanding the offense, the team rallies behind him and becomes tough to beat. Now Winston and the Giants must regroup and find ways to execute better heading into Week 3 and the rest of the season.
On the Los Angeles side, the Rams looked like a completely different football team than they did a week ago. After traveling to Australia for Week 1 and looking far from a Super Bowl contender, the Rams returned home and turned things around. Matthew Stafford, who failed to throw a passing touchdown in Week 1, bounced back in a big way with four touchdown passes in Week 2. Looking like the reigning MVP, Stafford completed 22 of 31 passes for 327 yards.
Stafford needed to step up, especially with key players like Puka Nacua and Myles Garrett sidelined due to injury. Wide receiver Davante Adams was arguably the best player on the field for Los Angeles. In the first half alone, Adams had five receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown, dominating his matchups against the Giants’ secondary. After an impressive Week 1 performance in which New York constantly pressured and blitzed Dallas, the Giants defense had no answers on Monday night. The Rams offensive line held its own, and Adams finished the game with eight receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
After two completely different outcomes in Week 1, the tables turned in Week 2. The Rams now carry momentum forward, while the Giants head into Week 3 searching for answers.
