Midnight to Midnight: WMSC Goes Live for 24 Hours on World College Radio Day

Written by on September 30, 2026

MONTCLAIR, N.J. — 90.3 WMSC-FM, the student radio station of Montclair State University, will broadcast 24 hours of student-led specialty programming on Friday, Oct. 2, for World College Radio Day 2026. The marathon runs from midnight to midnight and features shows from the station’s DJs, departments, alumni and graduating seniors.

This year’s global theme is “HOPE – Always In The Air!”, a nod to radio’s role as a source of connection for listeners and the students who make it. For WMSC Programming Director Alyssa Arroyo, the day has been part of that story from the start.

“World College Radio Day was the holiday that showed me how beautiful the WMSC community is,” said Arroyo. “Being able to showcase a variety of DJs and their specialty shows is such an exciting experience that simply cannot be replaced. Having hope, especially in this climate, is hard to achieve; however World College Radio Day here at WMSC has shown me that it is still possible.”

Organized by the College Radio Foundation, World College Radio Day brings student stations around the world together each fall for a coordinated 24-hour broadcast celebrating college radio. 2026 marks the event’s 16th year, and WMSC has been a regular participant.

Arroyo opens the broadcast herself at midnight with the “World College Radio Day Kickoff Extravaganza.” The overnight hours belong to the station’s staff, with the Digital Marketing Team and Executive Board each taking an hour before the Sports Team settles in for two hours of “WMSC Sports Gauntlet 2!” The News Team handles the morning with “The Morning Buzz” at 8 a.m. and “Coffee With Montclair” at 9 a.m.

The afternoon brings “Who Covered It Better?” at 1 p.m., where Dr. K (President Jonathan Koppell), DJ Chris and Bellamix put versions of A-ha’s “Take On Me” head to head, followed by a two-hour Music Team Takeover. In the evening, alumnus Tom Kaminski and crew bring back “Back To The Future” for two hours starting at 7 p.m. The day closes at 11 p.m. with “Senior Sendoff,” hosted by the station’s winter seniors and senior general assembly members.
