Me & u Shows a Sweeter Side of h4rtbrkr

I love alternative music from the depths of the web, and my latest obsession as
of late has definitely been loser-core artist h4rtbrkr. With this genre of music on the rise
since wifiskeleton’s passing (If you don’t know the name I bet you know the song, trust
me and just look it up) many artists creating similar mopey music have been on the
public radar, with h4rtbreaker being one of my favorites. Now what’s usual for this type
of music is depressing emo lyrics with harsh and hard to hear production, but with this
EP h4rtbrkr breaks out of this mold a little bit with some more sentimental lovey dovey
themes and I’m all for it.
The EP opens with a pop-punk cutesy love tune about how much he loves his
girl, which I think is beautiful. Punchy drums, fun lyrics, catchy rhythm guitar; this song
is just an all around delightful listen and is definitely my favorite. Next song doesn’t even
last a minute, but is another very enjoyable love song. It’s got a catchy rhythm and it
doesn’t overstay its welcome. The third track on the list is kaykynn, and it’s pretty similar
to still in love. This isn’t to discredit the song, it’s very solid but you can definitely see the
similarities in how the songs are structured. The princess is fourth in line and it takes a
bit of a turn in tone. This marks the older more pessimistic side coming back in the
sound, in terms of lyrics. It’s got a very interesting production, having the entire song
repeat but slowed at the backhalf. Next up is abrs114 which is a mopy song about an
ex, and there isn’t much else to say about it. Themes of being replaced in the future as
well as the oddly specific, yet vague memories h4rtbrkr loves to put in his songs. The
final song is a poppy instrumental called may & june. It’s got some interesting sampling
going on in the background giving it a short, sweet, and nostalgic vibe.
Me & u by h4rtbrkr is a very fun listen and I would highly recommend it to any
alternative music listener, especially with it being only a 7 minute listen cover to cover.
It’s not going to blow you away, but you’ll probably walk away with at least one or two
songs added to your playlist. It’s accessible, extremely poppy, and has a few really
interesting ideas to boot. I hope to see h4rtbrkr take on a more light hearted tone with
upcoming projects in the future.
