KATSEYE Made a Movie for the People Who Made Them

The KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS documentary follows the global girl group through their journey of fame, bringing EYEKONS and casual fans alike a behind the scenes look of the choreography, performances, and everything in between that has brought the group to where they are today. The film opened in theaters worldwide on Aug. 12, two days ahead of the group’s third EP, WILD.

As a casual fan, I enjoyed learning more about the girls. The director Nadia Hallgren did a great job at highlighting each girl and their personalities, making the film feel more intimate and helping the audience get to know the members of KATSEYE.
I especially liked hearing from Yoonchae about her experience as the youngest member of the group, growing into herself with the friendships of her music group while also under the light of fame.
I also appreciated the message of taking care of mental health, and how Megan and Sophia have taken steps with therapy and breaks to take care of themselves, an important message for all, especially their young audience.
A part of the documentary I really enjoyed was seeing the behind the scenes choreography. The performance directors Grant Gilmore and Sohey Sugihara did an incredible job teaching the girls their moves, and it was so mesmerizing to watch them learn the dances to their most popular songs, such as “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.”
Listening to their vocals and the behind the scenes of production was also a highlight for me. I loved the segment where Lara pitched her original song “Unloveu,” which ended up on WILD as a bonus track. The production of each song was very unique, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning the moving parts of a pop song.
Above all, the KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS film was for the fans. The film highlighted fanmade edits of the girls as well as fan reactions to the songs, which added to the personal feel as a whole. I loved seeing how authentic the girls were, in their livestreams and interviews, and seeing how much that connected with the fans. The film made me feel more connected to KATSEYE, and I look forward to seeing what comes next, in their WILD era and beyond.
