NJ Student Doodles to Victory

A New Jersey student could soon be the face of Google for a day.

 

Jeremy Henskens, 14, entered the nationwide Google for Doodle contest along with over 220,000 other students. At a surprise school assembly, Henskens found out that his design is among the final 50 doodles selected that have the chance at becoming the Google doodle featured on the official website for a day.

 

This is the 11th annual Google for Doodle contest held and this year’s prompt that students had to fulfill is “When I grow up I want to…”. Hensken says that he wants to be a cartoonist when he grows up and his doodle is meant to represent that.

 

Although Henskens has made it very hard, the contest is not over yet. Starting on June 3, the public will be able to vote on their favorite Google doodle and from the 54, only five will be chosen to advance to the final round where a panel of judges will choose the winner.

 

This year’s panel includes Mandy Manning, the teacher of the year, as well as Kermit the Frog and Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon.

 

The winner of the contest will be given a $5,000 college scholarship and their school district will be given $50,000 to spend on technology for the schools. The winner’s doodle, as aforementioned, will be showcased on the official Google website for a day.
