Young The Giant, Milky Chance & TALK – Pier 17 NYC 6/3/23
Written by mccormacke1 on June 27, 2023
My first time at The Rooftop at Pier 17, I was so excited to finally see not just one, not just two- but three iconic alternative artists that have been on my concert bucket list for a long time coming. (Continue reading for my experience – and more photography at the end!)

The first act was TALK, an up-and-coming solo artist best known for his 2022 hit “Run Away To Mars,” a single that often appeared on my rock/alternative countdown show in fall 2022. He performed his then unreleased single “A Little Bit Happy,” which is now here and is one of my favorite songs to play here at our station! He met with some of his fans and his family that came in support by the merchandise booth- He was such a sweet person to speak to, and this was only the beginning of such an epic night!
Like many others, I first discovered Milky Chance from their hit song “Stolen Dance,” and getting into their music a bit more in recent years made attending this show a no-brainer. I was particularly looking forward to hearing their latest hits such as “Synchronize” and “Colorado,” and they certainly met my high expectations.
This show took place the week before their album Living In A Haze debuted- I looked forward to the title track the most because it is a household favorite! We randomly bring up our hopes to be a “disco boy” in reference to the song’s chorus: “I wish I was a disco boy.” We do, in fact, wish we were all disco boys… Needless to say, this was an epic to hear live!
I’ve been listening to Young The Giant’s top songs for years, and I can say that their set truly blew me away. You may know this band from their singles “Cough Syrup,” “Mind Over Matter” or their latest hit, “The Walk Home,” which is dominating the Triple A scene. Lead singer Sameer Gadhia is a divine entity in my eyes, this man is a talented force that I am honored to have been in the presence of.
Some people were bummed by the chill in the air by this time of the night, but I love the fact that I could enjoy the final set of the night in the comfort of the cool air. Performing new songs, including the title track from their latest album American Bollywood, the windy night added to the epic stage. I will certainly be on the lookout for future local Young The Giant tour dates – it would be a shame to miss out on another fantastic performance!
