“You Got Me Searching” – Jack White B-side Review

Review by Tyler Apple –

Multi Grammy winning artist Jack White released a new song coming off the heels of his summer 2024 rock record No Name, an album that wastes no time and brings raw in-your-face rock riffs and catchy melodies. He picked the track “That’s How I’m Feeling” as a lead single to the album, and the song has been very successful on rock radio as well as streaming numbers. On Thursday, November 14th, White announced a brand new world tour, as well as the announcement of a new B-side to “That’s How I’m Feeling.” The track is called “You Got Me Searching” and it was released on Friday, November 15th through Third Man Records.

The opening riff to the song immediately grabbed my attention as it’s extremely bluesy and infectious. You could have told me that the riff was written by Jimmy Page and I would have believed you. What makes Jack White so special as an artist is that he knows how to write a good timeless riff. Just like his latest record No Name, the track uses lo-fi production to its advantage. In the best way possible, the song sounds like it was made in a garage. There aren’t a lot of artists winning Grammy’s and getting their songs on the radio with songs that sound this raw.

The song’s structure is also kept extremely simple. The verses have a muted guitar chord, a pulsing four-on-the-floor bass drum, and of course Jack White’s iconic vocals with retro rock and roll style lyrics. The verses build and eventually explode into that same killer guitar riff from the intro. Although the track is very loud and in your face, it also is very dynamic. The bridge pulls the listener to a more quiet section that you can tell is building to the next chorus. It gives us different lyrics that help make the song less repetitive. Eventually, it builds back into the opening riff and then suddenly, it’s over. It really wastes no time and definitely doesn’t overstay its welcome by any means.

The track, like a lot of Jack White’s discography, feels vintage and familiar. Somehow it always remains to feel fresh. I believe if you are a fan of any of his previous material, you will be a fan of this track and his 2024 release No Name. It’s a bit more raw than The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, but the rawness goes very well with the high energy. I am actually surprised that this track ended up as a B-side. To me, it almost has the energy and catchiness to be a single off the album. It has the ethos and structure of punk rock mixed with the timeless nature of blues rock and roll. Jack White is proving well into his career that he still has a lot of gas in the tank, even in his B-sides.

White has embarked on his No Name Tour, making stops in North America in 2025. You can check out his tour dates on his website, jackwhiteiii.com.
