WMSC Remembers George Jamgochian

A beloved member of our WMSC family, George Jamgochian, who hosted this show The Morning Buzz & his own sports show In Foul Territory, passed away on January 1.  He was 23.

Georgie as he was known to family and friends, joined WMSC FM just six days after starting his freshman year at Montclair State University where he majored in Television & Digital Media and minor in Sports Communication. He spent more than 3 years as a key member of this station and our team. He began his on air work as a contributor and quickly earned the roles of DJ and Assistant Sports Director. He hosted “In Foul Territory”, his own 3-hour weekly sports show. He then also joined The Morning Buzz, first as a contributor and then as host of show once a week. Georgie’s work has also been featured on Montclair Newslab and the Red Hawk Network. When he was not in radio, Georgie was either in class, on the Red Hawk Sports Network or in the radio station greenroom taking a power nap.

Georgie loved music as much as he loved sports, and he popped into music shows to share his love for “The Beatles,” “Led Zeppelin” and “The Beach Boys.” He was a vital player on calling Red Hawk games, and was a friendly face for all new recruits who joined the radio station. Georgie was a bright, kind-hearted, and always ready to give a helping hand kind of person.

 On November 13^th, 2020, Georgie signed off from the live radio studio one last time after 3 years and two months on-air. He was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia three days later. George continued to be part of the WMSC family, often joining via Zoom to be part of several special WMSC broadcasts and events throughout his treatment, and continued to check in with his radio family. Georgie touched the lives of everyone he met right here, in our small college station space. He will be sorely and deeply missed but forever remember.
