In the first installment of WMSC Community highlights, we take a look at the Student Veterans Organization at Montclair State University. Just in time for National Veterans and Military Family Appreciation Month!
Jonathan Gubitosi, Assistant Director of Veteran and Military Services, stated, “Our mission is to support fellow veterans as they transition into college life. We aim to foster a sense of community by providing veterans with valuable resources, guidance, and peer support.”
The Student Veterans Organization hosts many events throughout the academic year, ranging from exclusive job fairs to exclusive breakfasts and lunches for veterans and service members to network with like-minded individuals. The organization also participates in philanthropic work for local communities around Montclair State.
“SVO is a great organization on campus that brings military and veteran students together by supporting our academic and social ambitions,” Divine Crilly, a student at Montclair and a cadet in Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), stated. “It feels special that Montclair State University has an organization of this type.”
There will be a Veterans Flag Raising, celebrating and recognizing Montclair State’s veterans and service members on November 10th at 12 pm at the Student Center Flag Poles, followed by a luncheon in the Student Center Ballroom.
In honor of Veterans Day, the rec center has partnered with Veterans/Military Services to host the Red Hawk Warrior Challenge on November 11th from 2 – 4 pm.
Starting November 13th, an Artifact Showcase will be displayed in the Sprague Library Lobby, featuring military items and equipment donated by Montclair State’s veterans and service members, providing a unique insight into their experiences and contributions.
