WMSC 90.3 FM Earns Six National Awards from College Broadcasters, Inc.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (October 31, 2025) — Montclair State University’s student-operated radio station, 90.3 WMSC-FM, received six national awards at the College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) National Student Electronic Media Convention (NSEMC) held October 22–25 in Denver, Colorado.
The station took home first-place honors for:
● Best Student Media Website: wmscradio.com
● Best Audio Hard News Reporting: Traffic Deaths and Vision Zero
● Best Video Feature News Reporting: Scaling Back
In addition to these top wins, WMSC earned national recognition across multiple categories,
including:
● Radio Station of the Year – 3rd Place
● Best Hard News Reporting – California Fires Aftermath – 3rd Place
● Best Sports Reporting–March Madness Sweet 16 –4th Place
“These awards reflect the dedication, creativity, and professionalism of our student journalists,” said Ben Capp, WMSC News Director. “Each project represents hours of hard work and a shared commitment to telling stories that matter to our community. Being able to learn and grow
alongside other student journalists in this setting was extremely formative.” The station also placed among the top nationally in several sports categories, highlighting WMSC’s continued excellence and diversity in the content it produces and presents on air.“It was an honor to have our work be recognized on such a prestigious level,” said Vincent Picone, WMSC Sports Director. “From a student perspective, being able to present in two panels, sharing what I have learned during my time at WMSC was amazing, especially having other students come up to me after to tell me how insightful they thought the panels were. Now that was one of the highlights of the trip!” Eleven WMSC students attended the CBI National Student Electronic Media Convention, where they participated in three days of panels, workshops, and networking sessions covering
journalism, production, leadership, and digital media innovation. Of these eleven students, four were guest speakers at various panels throughout the conference, sharing their knowledge with students from access the country. The event concluded with the 2025 National Student Production Awards Ceremony, emceed by Montclair State University’s own Professor Tom Kaminski, recognizing excellence in student media across the country. “When you give students the freedom to explore and discover, they soar. These six national
awards prove our team’s talent and drive”, said WMSC General Manager Anabella Poland, who currently serves as President of College Broadcasters, Inc. WMSC serves nearly 1,000 undergraduate students at Montclair State University, providing a state-of-the-art facility where emerging broadcasters discover their voice, develop their craft, and tell stories that matter.
