Baby Jesus revitalizes someone of rocks most influential names with their second album “Took Our Sons Away”. With retro psychedelic sensibilities, this is not what most people are listening to in 2017. The Swedish garage rock band’s album doesn’t give off the sound of a stadium-filling pop-artist. “Took Our Sons Away” is the LP of […]

On July 22nd, I attended the last show of Iron Maiden’s Book of Souls World Tour at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. The tour began in February 2016, and had it’s first US dates then. June marked the second time the most iconic metal act toured the US in support of their 2015 release “The Book of Souls”. I was fortunate enough to catch them twice on this last portion of their tour. The first time I saw them at New Jersey’s Prudential Center back in June.

Written by: Julia Siegel Just about everyone knows some version of King Arthur, Camelot, and the Knights of the Round Table. But, you probably don’t know Guy Ritchie’s version, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. The classic tale is flipped and Ritchie-ized as Arthur’s origin story plays out with a rags-to-riches theme. With some modernity […]
Written by: Julia Siegel In January, Sundance Film Festival’s breakout hit was none other than New Jersey-based film Patti Cake$. With breakout performances, great music, and an inspirational story, Patti Cake$ may be one of the best independent films of the year. The story is truly about New Jersey, as the director, Geremy Jasper, is […]
Written by: Julia Siegel An enlightening documentary, a hilarious conversation, and two great characters made an afternoon at the Wellmont Theater a must-be place during the final weekend of the Montclair Film Festival. The excited, sold-out crowd broke into a thunderous round of applause when the still extremely popular Bill Nye walked into the theater. […]
Written by: Julia Siegel Quadruple threat director, actor, screenwriter, and song writer Zoe Lister-Jones closed out the Montclair Film Festival with her hilarious new film, Band Aid. Written by: Julia Siegel New Jersey has some weird folklore, but no story may be crazier than the events that occurred from Orson Welles’ radio broadcast of War of the Worlds on October 30, 1938. The radio industry was forever impacted by the chaos that ensued when Welles announced that Martians were invading New Jersey. […]
One of the staples of the Montclair Film Festival is the In Conversation Series, which teams up late night comedian and festival Advisory Board member Stephen Colbert with celebrities to discuss their lives in the entertainment industry. This year, Colbert sat down with actor/writer/director John Turturro and discussed everything from Turturro’s life growing up in Queens, New York to working with famous directors Woody Allen, Spike Lee, the Coen Brothers, Robert De Niro, and Michael Bay. No matter what the topic was, Turturro managed to crack up Colbert and the entire audience with his kooky storytelling.

Photo and Story by: Julia Siegel Film festivals typically show thought-provoking films, so it was no surprise that director Oren Moverman’s latest feature, The Dinner, made the lineup. Based on the Dutch book by Herman Koch, The Dinner uses a choppy, non-linear narrative to show how far four neurotic parents would go to protect their […]

By: Connor Faleski New Jersey’s own Real Estate has just released their new album “In Mind”, and with this new project comes a cleaner sound that hasn’t been heard on any other album in their discography. The synths are amazingly light, filling up all empty spaces that the punchy drums, bass, and refreshingly Mac Demarco-esque guitars […]
