New York Red Bulls II slightly bounced back in their 2023 season, winning their first penalty shootout in a trip to Atlanta, GA. The Red Bulls conceded in the 4’, goal scored by Erik Lopez. But in the 57’, Wikelman Carmona scored to tie the game at 1-1. The game finished as a 1-1 tie in regulation, forcing a penalty shootout. The Red Bulls went perfect on penalties, scoring all 5. Nicolas Firmino missed his penalty attempt for Atlanta, resulting in a 5-4 Red Bulls II win on shootouts. The Red Bulls II were fortunate to have midfielder Daniel Edelman join them, a familiar face for the second squad. Atlanta United currently stands at 18th in the MLS Next Pro standings, while the Red Bulls sit at 14th. Both teams aren’t having the start they anticipated. The Red Bulls continue their season this Easter Sunday against Crown Legacy FC at MSU Soccer Park.
