NEW YORK CITY, NY— Prime Video showcased a new series titled CROSS on Friday, October 18. Ben Watkins, showrunner of the highly-anticipated series, revealed its release date as Thursday, November 14 2024. The show is an adaptation of the best-selling book series Alex Cross by James Patterson.

Moderated by MSNBC’s Joy Reid, the panel included exclusive sneak peaks at the thriller series including some never-before seen clips. One clip that has since been posted to YouTube features Aldis Hodge as renowned homicide detective Alex Cross in an interrogation with a prospective suspect.

One of the most notable aspects of this series is its representation. Reid noted that the series itself serves as representation of complex feelings and multidimensional portrayals of real stories, especially with female characters. “What I love about it…This series is not just a mystery, a cop drama, a buddy drama…It’s also a story about grief, it’s a story about family, it’s a story about dealing with emotional loss and trying to figure out who you are after loss. It’s a story about Black love, which we don’t get a lot of….” Reid described.

Ben Watkins also discussed how representation in CROSS also manifested itself in the relationship between Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) and John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa). Mustafa described this relationship as an innate love, solely based on a deep appreciation for one another. Watkins emphasized how this has been scarce in the media, especially between two Black male characters.

The series is scheduled to release on November 14, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.
