After five long years, Ninja Sex Party (NSP) returns to the stage with their Pure Elegance Tour. I had the pleasure of catching them at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ, which is actually the state they are both from. The concert was such a perfect blend of classic fan favorites and new material, showcasing both their older hits like “Cool Patrol” and “Heart B*ner,” alongside tracks from their latest album, These Nuts.

Formed by Dan Avidan and Brian Wecht, Ninja Sex Party has always been known for their infectious mix of humor and musical talent. Their songs are full of clever lyrics, over-the-top themes, and a tongue-in-cheek approach to everything from relationships to dinosaurs in outer space. Whether it’s a heavy riff or a smooth ballad, the production is always energetic and leaves you wanting more.
For longtime fans, the opening act and backup band, TWRP (Tupper Ware Remix Party), joined NSP on tour. TWRP, a Canadian band blending funky, retro-inspired synth-pop, rock, and electronic music, brings a Daft Punk-esque vibe to their performances. They’re known for their humor, style, and collaborations with Ninja Sex Party, including songs like “The Hit” and “Starlight Brigade,” where Avidan features as lead vocalist. When I first learned that TWRP would be the opener, my excitement grew exponentially. It felt like a two-for-one deal! TWRP kicked off the night with a setlist of 11 songs, featuring both their classic hits like “Atomic Karate” and “Hidden Potential,” and newer tracks like “VHS” and “A Human’s Touch.” Their performance was electric, and they successfully warmed up the crowd, creating an atmosphere that was vibrant and full of anticipation.
Once NSP hit the stage, the energy in the room soared. Their opening song was a newer song from their latest album These Nuts titled “Get Ready (To Get Ready).” The second the audience heard that synth-keyboard the crowd roared. Middle school me was finally living her dream of seeing this duo live and it was everything I dreamed of and more. Their love for their music and their fans is so genuine, and it fueled the entire performance. The duo’s dynamic on-stage is nothing short of infectious. Their high-energy, zany personalities shine through, and they connect with the audience in a way that feels both personal and chaotic. The laughter, the cheers, and the excitement were constant throughout the show, making it a truly unique concert experience.
They showcased a couple of older songs, even incorporating the audience’s voices into their song “Heart B*ner” and even had a couple of bits in the middle of the show with Ninja Brian and the lead guitarist from TWRP Lord Phobos. NSP also announced a new upcoming cover album, Under The Covers Vol. IV, and sang a new song from that album for their audience which was a cover of “Just What I Needed” by The Cars. Their encore songs were two songs that the audience craved for. One from TWRP which was “Starlight Brigade” and finally NSP’s most popular and well known song “Danny Don’t You Know,” which also happens to be one of my absolute favorite songs of all time.
What truly makes Ninja Sex Party stand out is their ability to blend parody with sincerity, something that shines even more when you hear their songs performed live. To me this felt like a dream come true as a long time Game Grumps, Ninja Sex Party and TWRP fan. If there is one concert I would recommend to anyone, it would be Ninja Sex Party’s Pure Elegance Tour. It might be outside your comfort zone, but it’s an experience you will not forget—I know I haven’t.
