WASHINGTON D.C.– On Tuesday, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders announced his candidacy for U.S. President for the 2020 presidential election. Although Senator Sanders identifies as an independent, he started a bid for the 2020 Democratic Presidential Nomination.
“It is absolutely imperative that Donald Trump be defeated,” said Sanders in a CBS interview, calling the President a “pathological liar… racist” and “sexist”. Among others, Sanders has plans for universal healthcare and free college tuition.
If elected, Sanders will be the oldest elected president in the history of the United States at 79 years old. The senator joins over a dozen other Democrats seeking the nomination for President including New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.
There is a long road from here until election day as the New Jersey Democratic primary is currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 20th in 2020.
