MSU: Department of Writing Studies

Written by on April 12, 2017

This year a new department formed at Montclair State University, the Writing Studies Department, which is housed in the College for Humanities and Social Sciences at MSU. The Department of Writing Studies was the next evolution for the writing programs at Montclair State University. Now, taking shape as its own department, the Writing Studies Professors are equipped and prepared to teach students to be more aware, perceptive, and prepared writers in the world.

The Department of Writing Studies also houses Montclair State University’s award winning First-Year Writing Program and the Professional and Public Writing Minor. The Professional and Public Writing Minor, or PPW for short, is for anyone who wants to learn about different kinds of writing for the workplace, non-profit, digital, political, and collaborative in both print and digital contexts. It pairs well with any major or minor, and is easy to complete as it is only 6 classes. WMSC has collaborated with the Department of Writing Studies to create Community Bulletin Board (CBB) pieces to get the word out there about the new department, as well as, the Professional and Public Writing Minor housed within the department.
