It’s official, 2018 is the year of Drake. The rapper released Scorpion, a dual album this past June with hit, after hit, after hit blowing up on all streaming services. Now, Drake appears on Bad Bunny’s latest single titled, MIA not to be confused with M.I.A. The song has heavy Latin influences and roots. It veers more toward the pop side rather than Drakes natural hip-hop and rap habitat.
According to Stefanie Fernandez from National Public Radio (NPR), Bad Bunny has been deemed the poster boy of the Latin trap wave taking hold of pop within and without the Latin markets.
While the song isn’t technically his, as soon as fans see “featuring Drake,” all eyes are on him. It’s as if Bad Bunny doesn’t exist which is an unjust and unfortunate truth. Keep in mind, Drake only appears in the very beginning of the track and throughout the chorus, showing off his Spanish speaking talents. MIA is easy to get into but unless you have a knack for the Spanish dialect, you’ll more than likely opt to shake your body to the fabulous beat instead of singing alongside Bad Bunny and Drake.
MIA is climbing the ranks of the Hot Latin Songs chart, surely to make its way on up to number one.
