Singer-songwriter Lyn Lapid brought an emotional, captivating energy to the stage of Irving Plaza in New York City. Her incredible lyricism and alt-pop melodies had the entire crowd captivated by her presence the moment she set foot on stage. The show felt extremely personal, almost as if it was a look into her diary — all while being upbeat songs you can scream with the people around you.

The night began with “buttons,” with Lyn immediately pulling the audience in with its bittersweet and reflective tone, which flowed seamlessly into “coraline” and “Producer Man.” Lyn’s vocals surrounded the crowd in an amazing presence, and you could tell the crowd was loving it. Her stage presence was effortless and so much fun, helping the show feel extremely personal.

Next, we move on to an excellent combination of heartbreak and self-reflection with songs like “back up plan,” “pick your brain,” and “east side.” Every song was met with a chorus of vocals from the crowd, proving how much Lyn’s music resonated with the crowd. The lighting shifted from deep red to blues and purples, matching the mood perfectly. Lyn continued to own the stage with “ok with it” and “the alternative.”

A standout moment of the night came with “poster boy,” where Lyn picked a guy from the crowd to be the night’s designated poster boy. She made him hold a poster and sang the song to him. That was quickly followed by a sweet surprise, where Lyn performed “Love Like You,” a song originally by Rebecca Sugar from Steven Universe — Lyn even played the keyboard herself for the song. The crowd erupted in soft cheers as the song started. It was a nostalgic, emotional moment that fit the vibe of the show perfectly.

“floater friend,” “Room For You,” and “death wish” kept the same energy of the night flowing, with Lyn dancing around the stage and both her guitarist & bassist having lots of fun. By the time she reached “fix” and “who,” it felt like the room was fully connected — from Lyn on stage to the people at the back of the room.

As the night neared its end, “take me as i am” and “it doesn’t kill me anymore” which gave the main setlist a wave of emotion. Lyn’s lyrics really shone through at this part of the show. Every lyric carried this quiet power that took over the room. It was silent but not sad — just a group of people enjoying the moment, all you could hear was the soft whisper of those who knew the lyrics.

To no surprise, the show wasn’t over yet. After chants of “one more song!” filled the room, Lyn returned for her encore performance. Starting with “buzzkill,” which instantly brought the vibes of the room up. She followed it up with her 2021 song “In My Mind,” which was one of her original viral songs. Her voice floated over the crowd effortlessly. She ended the night with “i’ll be happy when,” a song that made us feel happy, but with a bittersweet sadness to it. There was a mix of hope and honesty that lit up the room.

Overall, Lyn Lapid delivered a show that was equally emotional and electric. The setlist covered every emotion in the book, stemming from heartbreak and nostalgia, then transitioning to joy and hope. She gave us everything from stripped-down vocals to danceable pop songs. No matter what she played, the intimacy of the room was still there.

Lyn Lapid doesn’t just perform, she creates a space where people can feel everything together. No matter what stage of life people are in, I can assure you that Lyn Lapid has a song you can relate to. If you get the chance to see her on her next tour, I highly recommend it.
