Everything was still ‘Copacetic’ inside the walls of Warsaw as Knuckle Puck brought the 10th anniversary celebration to Brooklyn, New York on May 16th. Copacetic, the debut album from the Chicago pop-punk icons, has been one of the genre’s most influential albums since its release in 2015. It’s a record that sticks with you after the first listen, whether you heard it 10 years ago or yesterday.

Originally only performing a one-off show in their hometown this past January, Knuckle Puck decided to spread the love with select dates across the country celebrating the beloved album. New York was lucky enough to be one of them and I’ve never been more grateful to have caught a show in my life.

Knuckle Puck is one of the most energetic live bands that I’ve been lucky enough to witness four times now, with their crowds equally as rowdy and eager. The second they took the stage with “Wall to Wall (Depreciation),” Warsaw was on fire. Crowdsurfers already hurdling towards the barricade and a mosh pit opening up within seconds of the song beginning were clear signs that this was going to be one heck of a show.

The band reflected on the fact that so many people still connect with Copacetic all these years later throughout the night. They shared their gratitude, expressing that they never thought that this record could have become as monumental as it is now and how they would be nowhere without the support. It was a sweet sentiment that made the night feel even more special and powerful.

The portion of the night dedicated to fully playing Copacetic came to a close with the album’s final track, “Untitled.” The energy I feel when hearing this song live is unlike anything I have ever felt. Watching vocalist Joe Taylor grab his mic stand and point it at the crowd as they scream “I’ve been much better but at least I’m healing” back at him is a sight I’ll never take for granted. “Untitled” in particular is a song that’s become deeply personal to a lot of the pop-punk community. Being able to hear it live in a nearly sold-out room celebrating the 10th anniversary of its respective album was a surreal feeling.

If you thought that was where the fun ended, you would be sorely mistaken! Knuckle Puck kept the set going with a few newer tracks from their discography, including my personal favorites “Want Me Around” and “The Tower.” My favorite part of Knuckle Puck shows will always be the crowd. Everytime I’m in the pit at these shows, everyone’s always looking out for each other, singing along together, and going absolutely wild.

Copacetic was one of the first albums that allowed me to discover pop-punk and single-handedly let the genre become my entire personality. The fact that these songs still have the same impact as they did 10 years ago when they were first released is beautifully remarkable. You could feel the raw energy from both Knuckle Puck and the crowd until the very last second they were on stage. It was a reminder of how important music and this community are to so many, no matter how much time passes. Knuckle Puck is truly one of a kind and I am forever grateful to have been a part of celebrating such an iconic album.
