MONTCLAIR, NJ – As we move into the colder months, Montclair State University is getting ready by preparing for potential issues that could arise from the cold weather. Stephen Ruggiero is Director of Grounds at MSU and says he starts planning for the winter early.
“I start preparing for winter two seasons ahead,” Ruggiero told WMSC News. He also added that the university has about 200 tons of salt ready to be deployed when snow hits the roads and pathways on campus.
Meanwhile, the University Police Department is also preparing for the season. Chief of Police Tim Fox says he’s constantly monitoring road conditions and works with various other departments at the university to see how the weather may impact university operations. Fox adds that UPD will send out a RAVE Alert through text and email if there’s an emergency, closure, or anything else students need to know immediately.
Of course, there is also stuff you can do to prepare for the colder season. Both Ruggiero and Fox suggest students to wear warm clothing when it’s cold and be careful walking when paths are slippery. Fox adds to also drive safely and to be careful not to be exposed to the cold for too long, and to warm up inside if you start feeling numb.
