Frost Children Turn Their Own Festival into a Full Sweat-Through at Knockdown Center

Frost Children brought Frost Fest home to Knockdown Center in Maspeth, Queens on July 25th, and the venue never got a chance to cool off. Strobes ran through nearly the entire set, the kind of nonstop flash that had people shielding their eyes between songs, and once the lasers kicked in the room was already soaked through with sweat before the first song ended.
“Satellites,” “ELECTRIC,” “CONTROL,” and “BOUND2U” opened at full speed, and the vocals stayed sharp even as the pace never let up, impressive given how hard both of them were visibly working just to get through the set physically. One half of the duo, LuLu, picked up an actual guitar during “Sister,” a detail that stood out hard against everything electronic happening around it, and later strapped into a synth and noisemaker rig that looked more like a science project than an instrument. Between songs, they were up on tables, jumping right along with everyone in front of them, treating the stage less like one and more like an extension of the floor.
“Dirty girl,” “Ralph Lauren,” “Creep,” and “Position Famous” kept that same pace going, and the heat in the room only built from there. An hour in, the crowd was drenched and clearly running on fumes, but nobody stopped moving. “WHAT IS FOREVER FOR,” “Light Leak,” and “Afterlife” pushed further into the set without ever letting the energy dip, and by “Gutted” and “Blue Eyes” it was obvious this wasn’t going to be a night with a quiet stretch anywhere in it.
Then Kim Petras walked out. The floor’s reaction to “101” needed no explanation, and by the time “Pop Sound” and “RADIO” followed, the room was the loudest it had been all night. Frost Fest is Frost Children’s own event, hand-picked lineup and all, and bringing out Petras for three songs was the clearest sign yet of how far their reach extends. It landed like the payoff the whole set had been building toward, not a surprise dropped in out of nowhere.
“2 LØVE” brought the main set back down to earth just enough before the encore hit. “Harder,” “Lethal,” “FOX BOP,” and “Shake It Like A” closed the night out at the same speed it started, with the crowd still climbing over each other for one more song.
By the last chorus, the strobes were still running and nobody in the room wanted them to stop.
