OPINION – America, I am Disgusted with You.

“With liberty and justice for all” is what we regurgitate during the Pledge of Allegiance. Wouldn’t it be nice if we practiced what we preached?

On Monday, May 25th, George Floyd, an unarmed black man died shortly after, now former police officer, Derek Chauvin held him down with his knee after Floyd reportedly said he could not breathe.

Ever since the video was released on social media of Chauvin holding Floyd down, protests have erupted from Los Angeles to Minnesota to demand justice. The officers involved have not yet been charged for a crime, which is causing even more uproar.

According to MappingPoliceViolence.org, 99 percent of killings by the police from 2013-2019 have not resulted in officers being charged with a crime.

There is a reason why these protests are occurring across the country, and that is because the American people are fed up with cops not being held accountable for blatant murder.

I am tired of praying for change. It is time for police officers to be held accountable for their continued racist actions toward Black Americans.

The police are supposed to be there for us when we need them. It is appalling to say that I live in a country where Black Americans have to worry about getting killed when police are around.

Until police officers are held accountable for their despicable actions towards Black Americans, I cannot say that I live in a country with liberty and justice for all.
