OPINION: Christmas Is Not Coming to Town Just Yet

The month of November has long been underway, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. With November also comes something that shouldn’t be in the public mind at least until the week of Thanksgiving. And that thing is Christmas, specifically the music.

Every year on November 1st, public radios are flooded with Christmas music. This occurs way too early, and I have a good number of people who agree with me. When I asked 9 of my friends, 7 of them decided that Christmas music should not be played before Thanksgiving. It is just too early for people to be listening to these songs.

With that being said, the time to start listening to Christmas music is the day after Thanksgiving or after the Thanksgiving Day Parade. That then gives people time to enjoy the fall season without having to think about the hectic nature of the Christmas season. It also makes the most sense as the parade starts with a turkey to reference Thanksgiving and it ends with Santa to represent the start of the Christmas season.

All in all, November 1st is way too early to start listening to Christmas music, and it should begin no earlier than after the end of the Thanksgiving Day parade.
