Montclair State Gets Into the Halloween Spirit with a Month of Spooky Events

As the spooky season of Halloween creeps closer, Montclair State University is offering plenty of ways for students to get into the spirit. From haunted movie nights and pumpkin decorating to themed parties and trivia, the campus will be filled with festive fun leading up to the big day.
Here’s a look at some of the upcoming Halloween events happening across campus:
Daughta’s Halloween Kiki Ball — Thursday, October 16 | 6–10 PM | Student Center Ballroom A
Step into the fabulous underworld of Daughta’s Halloween Kiki Ball, a night made for queerdos, ghouls, and rebels. Expect bold looks, a lively runway, and a celebration of self-expression and creativity.
Frosted Frights — Thursday, October 16 | 8–10 PM | Hawk Crossing
Enjoy a spooky-sweet night with Halloween-themed cupcakes in this grab-and-go event. All students are welcome, though commuters must be signed in with a resident per Residence Life policies.
Herbology and Scary Skincare Night — Thursday, October 16 | 8–10 PM | Fenwick Hall
Take a breather from midterm stress at this relaxing night of skincare and herbal self-care, hosted by Residence Life in Fenwick Hall.
Zhong Yuan Jie: The Hungry Ghost Festival — Wednesday, October 22 | 2:30–3:30 PM | University Hall Room 3006
Learn about the rich cultural traditions behind the Hungry Ghost Festival — a spooky, spiritual celebration honoring ancestors with food and respect.
Write a Scary Story for Halloween — Monday, October 27 | 2–3 PM | Online
Join a creative writing workshop where you can craft your own scary (or funny) Halloween story with help from a CWE consultant.
Movie Night: Trick ’r Treat (2007) — Monday, October 27 | 2–3:30 PM | Student Center Underground
Get an early start on Halloween weekend with a screening of Michael Dougherty’s cult classic Trick ’r Treat.
Montclair Unraveled Halloween Party!!! — Monday, October 27 | 2:15–3:15 PM | Calcia Hall Room 230
Join Unraveled for a spooky-themed meeting and a chance to celebrate with fellow creatives.
Sweet Talk – Dinallo — Monday, October 27 | 7:30–10 PM | Dinallo Heights
Kick off Halloween week with candy, music, and socializing in Dinallo Heights. All students are welcome to join in on the fun.
Halloween on the Quad! — Tuesday, October 28 | 5–7:30 PM | Bloomfield Campus, Talbott Hall Quad
This family-friendly event for Essex County children features pumpkin painting, a haunted house, candy, and a classic Halloween movie.
Pumpkins with Phi: Pumpkin Decorating Night — Tuesday, October 28 | 6–8 PM | Bloomfield Campus, Talbott Hall DEN
Get crafty and decorate pumpkins using paint, stickers, and your own imagination.
Halloween Mini Golf — Tuesday, October 28 | 8–10 PM | Student Recreation Center Lounge
Test your swing on a haunted mini golf course filled with eerie obstacles and glowing Halloween décor. Costumes are encouraged!
Karaoke: Dress Up as a Musician — Wednesday, October 29 | 2–3:30 PM | University Hall Room 2011
Channel your favorite artist—or their ghost—for a Halloween karaoke session. Costumes optional, good vibes guaranteed.
Unplugged: Halloween Trivia — Thursday, October 30 | 7–9 PM | Student Center 1908 Pizzeria
