(Montclair, New Jersey) Quentin Ocampo, a junior studying Biochemistry at Montclair State University, has brought Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the Student Recreational Center this fall. The martial art was previously introduced to the campus but wasn’t maintained until Ocampo began spearheading the initiative. Originally, he proposed making a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student organization but that idea transformed into a GroupX Fitness class, giving Ocampo the resources and space he needed to bring his vision to life. He started the class with the goal of giving others the opportunity to enjoy the art that he had grown to love. Throughout the first class, students laughed as they learned the different combinations together, showing that they were enjoying themselves rather than being intimidated by the complexity of the mixed martial arts. Classes will run throughout the semester on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 pm and Thursdays from 5-6:30 pm.
