Five Awesome Artists: One Night In Brooklyn – Main Drag Music 4/19/25

Written by on May 18, 2025

Saturday night is the perfect environment for talented musical artists to showcase their work. April 19th at Main Drag Music in Brooklyn, New York was a shining example. ROREY, MayQueen, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet, The Shining Hours and Alex Mazzucchelli all brought their unique voices and artistry to display in the underground stage, weaving together a seamless blend of alternative pop and rock.

Main Drag Music serves as an authentic music and repair shop with various instruments and amps. Tucked below the main floor, the venue’s underground performance space gave each artist room to fill it with emotionally driven, undeniable sound. Its cavern-like structure enabled the raw, real and intimate sound of each artist.

NYC-indie pop artist ROREY had the lead-off spot, incorporating original pieces with an acoustic foundation. Emotionally-focused, embraceable themes were ROREY’s specialty, such as with songs “Emotional Hangover” and “Sit w It” which seamlessly reflected their alternative pop sound. ROREY set the overall feel of the night which enabled the other artists to bring their performances to fruition.

Even with unreleased pieces being superbly performed, ROREY’s craft was unmistakable–with themes of emotional openness and reflection being easily recognizable to the audience and enabled the other artists that followed to fill the same vessel.

MayQueen followed up, building on an already strong presence with their alternative rock sound. Their Bandcamp page describes them as a tight-knit NYC group “…made of childhood friends, sisters and an on-scene drummer…” which reflected their lively chemistry on stage.

Their performances of “Oh Tell Me” and “Order Up” were pristine outlets for their long-lasting, breezy instincts to deliver their rock sound. Even through a song performed in French, the vocals from Natasha Recorder flowing around the stage and venue invited the audience to focus on them even more, and performing it landed beautifully with genuine fondness.

With the audience already entrenched in capturing authentic performances, NYC feminist rock band Brea Fouriner & the Dream Ballet took the stage. They were able to reflect ROREY’s meaningful themes and MayQueen’s encompassing sound with their own skill set. Their 2024 record Manic Pixie Dream Girl! —described on their website as a “…colorful, relatable rock opera…” —was on display with the “SSRI” and the melody-driven “Nine of Swords” being performed to the audience in awe.

They have toured across the U.S., and their sharp tone was highlighted with a standout cover of Blondie’s “Dreaming,” for which they received a nod from original vocalist Debbie Harry, and an upcoming single about being in Montclair.

It was time for Brooklyn-based band The Shining Hours to take the stage in their own eclectic style, as their dream-rock sound quickly enveloped the venue. Their performances of “Retrograde” and “Moment” took the audience on a shoegaze journey with no fixed address.

Made more apparent with the use of violin during their performance, The Shining Hours spoke for themselves with the ability to play instruments while navigating the dream-like, enchanting rhythm. The dreamy texture of their songs led the audience to become enamored with the sound, making each one feel like a lifelong snapshot. It reflected the band’s ability to melt together instrumental erudition toward a prolific performance.

The blossoming structure was furthered by the last act of the night, with Staten Island-born singer-songwriter Alex Mazzucchelli taking the stage with her band. They performed all original songs, each one amplifying the previous.

Mazzucchelli’s sentiment-filled pieces were flowing through her captivating vocals and harmonious backing band, such as with the songs “Leave The Keys” and “Best Thing” both encompassing the push-and-pull dynamic of romantic relationships. Her performance was a smooth transition from an already bolstered musical texture.

The goal of her band’s performance was to ensure the event was gracefully closed and the audience was left feeling the musical sparks–from acoustics, to alternative rock and pop–and they most definitely succeeded.

These performances depicted why each artist belonged on Main Drag Music’s stage. Together, they brought distinct facets of emotions and talent which were met with ever-flowing joy from the crowd. They didn’t just perform at a live show–they celebrated each other’s musical gifts, characters and future greatness. Whenever a future collaborative live show is planned, each of these artists will surely go above and beyond to deliver an unforgettable performance.
