Massachusetts pop-punk icons Four Year Strong ended their Analysis Paralysis Tour at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on December 1, 2024. They brought Death Lens, One Step Closer, and Free Throw along with them across the USA to celebrate the release of their sixth album.
Death Lens was the first band of the night, and I absolutely fell in love with them. Before seeing them, they’d always been a band I had on my list to check out but never got around to. Their live performance was insane and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Pennsylvania based melodic hardcore band One Step Closer took the stage next and it can only be described in one, simple word: wow. These guys have had an absolutely explosive year, especially since the release of their sophomore record All You Embrace. I’ve been dying to see them live since discovering their music last summer and still can’t get over how incredible they were on that stage.
Last up before it was time for Four Year Strong was Free Throw, who I was super excited to see. I was especially thrilled to hear “Pallet Town,” which is one of my favorites from the band, live after listening to them for a while. They put on a great show and definitely helped get the crowd a little more ready as they anticipated Four Year Strong.
Most notably behind classics like “We All Float Down Here” and “Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die,” Four Year Strong has had a massive influence amongst the scene for over 20 years. Their latest record, analysis paralysis, has the band’s definitive, timeless sound with brand new elements that help it feel like a completely fresh twist in their discography. The songs from the record also translated great live. “Bad habit” and “paranoia” take the top spots for me when it comes to my favorites, and hearing them live cemented that placement even more.
I’ll admit–the night started out a bit slow. Maybe because it was a Sunday night, but the crowd wasn’t nearly as energetic as I had hoped for at first. However, that quickly changed as the night raged on. Before I knew it, there were a ton of people in the air crowd surfing and even more in the center moshing.
As the night came to an end, I left The Stone Pony thinking one thing: Four Year Strong were an extremely fun band to see live. They were full of energy and played all the hits–what more could you ask for at a pop-punk show! I’ve never been to a show at the indoor part of that venue that was as packed as it was for Four Year Strong–and it was absolutely awesome.
