90.3 FM – WMSC to Play 11 Hours of Music Exclusively on Vinyl To Celebrate Record Store Day
MONTCLAIR, NJ. (April 14, 2016) – WMSC is joining 40+ college radio stations around the US in the first ever Vinylthon organized by the College Radio Foundation, the organization behind College Radio Day, in commemoration of 9th Annual Record Store Day. On Saturday April 16th, 2016 WMSC will be broadcasting music exclusively from vinyl between 1pm to midnight EST! Record Store Day is an annual celebration that takes place the third Saturday of April bringing together artists, music fans and indie music shops.
“We are thrilled to be part of the first ever college radio Vinylthon,” said WMSC’s General Manager, Anabella Poland. “In a day and age when MP3s rule the industry, it is super exciting to dust off the turntables, select some of the good old records, admire the artwork and listen to our favorite songs with pops, crackles and all! We are big music supporters and Record Store Day is a big holiday for us music lovers.”
This year’s official Record Store Day ambassadors are Metallica, one of the biggest rock bands in the world and definitely the biggest metal band in the universe! WMSC will begin the Vinylthon broadcast with Metallica and we’ll play some the best songs exclusively on vinyl for the next 11 hours!
Metallica was thrilled to share their excitement to be named official Record Store Day ambassadors this year and the band will be performing at Rasputin Music in Berkeley, California and are releasing a special live album “Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica! – Live at Le Bataclan in Paris France – June 11th, 2003.” All proceeds of the record sales will be donated to Fondation de France’s Give for France charity in support of the country following the terrorist attacks in November 2015.
Other artists participating at local record stores are Mumford and Sons, Bonnie Raitt, Kacey Musgraves, Killswitch Engage, Reveron Horton Heat, The Mavericks and many more!
