WMSC To Celebrate Second Annual College Radio Vinylthon

Written by on April 21, 2017

MONTCLAIR, NJ. (April 20, 2017) – WMSC is joining 70+ college radio stations around the US for the second annual Vinylthon organized by the College Radio Foundation, the organization behind College Radio Day, in conjunction with Record Store Day.

On Saturday April 22nd, 2017 WMSC will be broadcasting music exclusively from vinyl for the entire duration of the day!

This year, CRD organizers, are awarding stations that go live for 24 hours playing only vinyl with a golden slip mat award and WMSC is a golden slip mat nominee. There will also be, for the first time, a Vinylthon Simulcast which will air an exclusive keynote interview from legendary musician and 11 time Grammy award winner, Daneil Lanois.

WMSC will launch the celebration with a one hour round table between our music director, music librarian and two station DJs on Friday April 21 at 11:00pm. Then, starting at midnight, tune in for exclusive interviews, original content and our curated selection of music exclusively played from vinyl. Then, our music team heads over to Princeton Record Exchange (PREX) in Princeton, NJ where they will be broadcasting live starting at 10:30am.

The day continues with a select group of DJs, each bringing their own collections to share with our audience till midnight.

“Our staff and DJs are beyond excited about dusting up the turn tables and throwing it back old school!” said Anabella Poland, General Manager. “What a great way to teach our students a new (old) skill!”

This year’s official ambassador for Record Store Day 2017 is St. Vincent.

When asked by the organizers of RSD, on what this ambassadorship meant to her, Clark commented, “It is with deep honor and humility that I accept this ambassadorship. Rest assured I do not take my duties lightly.” In the past ambassadors have included, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Grohl, and just last year Metallica. The Berkeley College of Music alum is the first ever female artist to hold the honor of Record Store Day Ambassador.
