New York Comic Con kicked off today in the heart of the Big Apple at the Jacob K. Javits Center. With an expected record attendance of over 180 thousand fans, the convention was forced to expand to outside booths (Comedy Central) and other venues nearby such as Hammerstein Ballroom and The Theater at MSG just a few blocks away.
Although there are plenty of panels, press rooms, special events and just plain old fun at interactive booths for everyone, the three most sought after are Stan Lee , attending his last New York Comic Con, The Walking Dead (a staple of NYCC) and blockbuster, and The War of The Planet of The Apes, from 20th Century Fox.
20th Century Fox had a special event that showed lucky fans and select press a behind the scenes look, a never before seen teaser trailer and 7 minutes of exclusive footage of War of Planet of the Apes.
Director, Matt Reeves, producer, Dylan Clark and Caesar himself -Andy Serkis -discussed the tough filming conditions and explained how motion capture draws from the real acting and emotion of the actors breathing live to the CGI apes.
Before the exclusive footage rolled, Reeves could only describe his emotions as “getting naked in front of all of you”, due to the scene not being complete. Serkis and company could be seen as their ape counter parts in some shots while in others you see them in their motion capture shoots. Clark could only call this “something that’s very special” not only for the fans, but for the creators as well.
War For The Planet Of The Apes is currently in post production, but is expected in theaters July 2017.
