As a part of WMSC News’ College Radio Day programming, David Brancaccio, host of American Public Media’s Marketplace Morning Report on NPR, joined WMSC on-air to discuss his background in the industry, the importance of media on college campuses and why students should get involved today! David has anchored for both TV and radio with over 30 years of experience.

DavidBThe Morning Buzz welcomed Father Dave Dwyer, host of Busted Halo on Sirius XM, to discuss the events that took place during Pope Francis’ recent papal visit. Father Dwyer provided “pray-by-pray” commentary for Vespers at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC, Mass at Madison Sq Garden, the Festival of Families on Sat. night in Philly, and the final mass on Sunday from Philly.

Remembering Yogi Berra

Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer and former New York Yankees and Mets catcher Yogi Berra passed away. During his 19 year playing career Berra was an 18- time All- Star, three- time American League Most Valuable Player, and a 10- time World Series Champion with 71 career series hits, the most in MLB history.

After he retired, Berra coached both the Yankees, and Mets lead the Mets to the world series in 1973. Berra’s death comes exactly 69 years after his major league debut. Berra died of natural causes at the age of 90.

The Rock Carnival

This past weekend, Oak Ridge Park hosted The Food Truck and Rock Carnival. This large-scale event is a festival for all-ages dedicate to craft beer, artisan foods and rock n’ roll. Around 15,000 patrons filled the venue Sunday. This event welcomed acts such as Slash, Black Label Society and many more!

WMSC Alumni and DJ of “The Metal Teddy Bear Experience” Chris Annunziata had the opportunity to attend The Rock Carnival where he had access to be on stage, backstage, at the artist compound, and on the pit!

Chris had the opportunity to meet and hangout with Slash!

Chris met Slash at his dressing room in the artist compounds which is an area backstage with air conditioned trailers with tons of hospitality.

Chris interviewed Clint Lowery, lead guitarist and backing vocalist on the band’s bus right after their set.

Clint Lowery writes a lot of the material for Sevendust. The band was on the bus and we hung out a bit with singer Lajon Whiterspoon.

Sevendust has a new album that drops October 2nd “Kill The Flaw” and recently hosted two listening party sessions at Architekt Studios in Butler, NJ where, DJ Chris Annunziata also had the opportunity to listen to the entire album while chowing down on some great food prepared by Celebrity Chef Eric Levine of Randolph, NJ’s Morris Tap and Grill. At the event, Chris met WSOU alum and SiriusXM Hard Rock DJ for over 13 years, Kayla Riley.

The WMSC “Alumni Takeover” started in 2009 on the “Friends of WMSC” Facebook page: “Wouldn’t it be great to get back on the air again on WMSC for a couple of hours?” Former WMSC GM Anthony Mennutti and former WMSC alum, Tom Kaminski from WCBS 880 reached out to other WMSC alumni, and the week-long “Takeover” was born! For the past 7 years it has brought alumni from all around the country back to Montclair State University.
